Waking Up In Vegas

yes… this weekend Twink, Collen and I took on THE Vegas… it was my first time so I was quite excited to experience the craziness I had heard about from basically everyone else I know… who has been there since turning 21!

I took the early flight out on Thursday morning in order to have a relaxing wonderful pool day to myself before T & C arrived that evening! It was wonderful, I read an entire book, got a teensy bit sunburned, and was incredibly relaxed (a state that was helped by Bud Light Limes) by the time I got back to my room to chat with Whitt, shower, and get ready while waiting for the friends to arrive!

After they got to the Luxor and we all finished getting ready, we headed to the strip to find somewhere to eat and then meet up with  my friend Taylor who lives in Vegas. We ended up going to La Salsa, a place Collen loved from Tucson. This was a BAD choice. I hadn’t eaten much (read anything) all day because the pool bar wasn’t open, I forgot to put my usual emergency granola bar in my purse, and was too lazy to leave the pool. They were starving as well so it was a combination of bad Mexican and too fast eating that resulted in the WORST stomach ache ever. Despite this, we powered through and met Taylor at TAO which is actually my favorite NYC restaurant, and a cool club in Vegas! (I wish we had just eaten there.. although we probably would not have gotten seated and its really expensive)

Needless to say there was ALOT of dancing… I mean cmon it’s Vegas and it was a club… and I LOVE to dance… Collen and Twink were even bragging about my skillz (read ridiculous dancing skillz not like legit dancing)… I may have gotten into another dance off.. nbd

The next morning I woke up with an even worse stomach ache 😦 which then got worse as we walked around the strip in the heat! I managed to eat a little bit for lunch, but was more concerned about staying hydrated! We walked around before ending up at the Aria Hotel pool which was sooo nice and relaxing and perfect for all three of us!

This was taken in the mall at the Aria… lots of little Tornadoes… I was in my element obis. On our way out of the Aria we stopped for the most delicious looking gelato! It reminded me of Italy! I got strawberry sorbet and cheesecake (my stomach was feeling momentarily better)

When it started to gray we returned to the Luxor, tried our obnoxious  awesome joke souvenir tshirts and relaxed until we went back to the strip in order to go to the Holstein restaurant at Cosmopolitan.

OMG this restaurant was amazing… it was a gourmet burger place/sports bar and was so cool! As a starter each table got cheddar cheese popcorn which I thought was such a cool twist (and also probably why my stomach started hurting again) They had so many intriguing hamburgers to choose from! Of course as we are all highly original and unique, we all ordered the California Burger which was a Turkey burger with sprouts, guac, lettuce, tomatoes, pepper jack cheese and russian dressing ( I opted out of this). Twink and Collen got steak fries while I opted for shoestring as I looooove shoestring potatoes! We also got a pitcher of sangria! OMG this sangria was zoo good…. I just wish my stomach hadn’t started hurting again thus not allowing me to fully enjoy the sangria to it’s fullest extent! They also served their beer in Koozies which I got super excited about… and would totally have ordered a beer just to get a koozie!

Once we got back to the hotel to get ready to go out I realized I would not be joining them out. Sadly my stomach hurt too much, and within 15 minutes of being back at the hotel I had passed out… guess I really didn’ feel good!

I woke up feeling much better, and so we got ready to check out and head down to breakfast! Breakfast at the luxor was actually better than I thought it would be, and I ordered a veggie omelet with hash browns and whole wheat toast as well as a mimosa!

We went back to the Aria pool after breakfast and enjoyed beers by the pool! Around lunch time we met up with my uncle and cousin who live in Vegas for lunch in one of the cafes at Aria, before going back to the pool before our flight!

It was definitely an enjoyable weekend despite the stomach ache… and I can’t wait to go back and explore even more!

CJG and the Hunger Games!

24 years ago today… a very special person was brought into this earth….. my dear ridiculous friend Connor J Grant

This year ConCon and I have become closer than ever and I love his presence in my life! He brings laughter, wisdom, and a partner in crime! Tonight we are going to the Kitchen in Denver in order to celebrate him making it 24 years living large!

Happy Birthday CON!!!!

Ok now onto the HUNGER GAMES!!!! We had a middle school group date type situation last night…. pretty much all of friends and I (legit we had almost an entire row) went to go see the Hunger Games! It was a mix of people who had read it and people who had not! I am obsessed with them…. and would have seen it on Thursday at midnight if I hadn’t been in Vegas!

legit this was one of the best trilogies I have ever read…and so I was so so so excited to see the movie esp because my brother Billy worked on the trailers when he worked at Lionsgate this year!

The movie was good… it wasn’t better than the books… movies never are but I definitely didn’t hate it the way I hate most of the Harry Potter movies (but I will still watch them every time ABC Family has a Harry Potter Weekend)

I loved the casting… I thought all the characters were spot on especially Stanley Tucci as Cesear Flickerman…. omg I died he was so funny and over the top. I also LOVED Josh Hutcherson as Peeta… he was exactly as I pictured him.

Also Gale is just so hot… I love him

And Lenny Kravitz was great as Cinna who was my favorite character in the books anyways!

There was definitely things I thought were pivotal to the book that were left out of the movie that I did not quite understand, but some of the added  scenes helped to add relevance for later on.. however the things that were left out become important later on as well… so we shall see how they do it! Overall I really enjoyed it… and will probably see it again because thats just how I work!

In other exciting news I am basically done data analysis on my masters project!!!! yay one step closer to graduation!!!! Also this week I started my LAST quarter of grad school….. EEEEEEEEE so exciting/scary

Have you seen the Hunger Games?! Thoughts?/Reactions?!Emotions?

Peace, Love, and be Sperry!

Finally… DC

So between traveling and trying to get work done on my masters project I have either had no access to internet or just no time… sorry i fail yet again haha.. on the bright side my daily activities now also include job searching… yay

Ok soooo now to my recap of DC!!!!!

As I have already stated the day of the marathon was HOTHOTHOT… after finishing the race we drove around for awhile admiring the beautiful cherry blossoms that were in bloom while on our way to Georgetown to drop my friend Lyndsey off! In addition to watching the race, Lyndsey was visiting her friends from W&L who now live in DC! Sadly Lauren and I did not going them for St. Patrick’s Day festivities because well my legs wanted no part of walking/dancing/or being upright really ahahhahaa

After dropping Lyndz off we went to meet my friend Erica at Shake Shack!!! I was so excited when I saw there was a Shake Shack and knew that was exactly what I wanted after my marathon! And it was delicious! I got the black and white milk shake with a cheese burger and crinkle cut fries…. OMG

My mom, Lauren and I all agreed that we wished the milkshakes were big as we could have had seconds! Thankfully the line was too long as we were leaving to entertain that thought! Especially with what was on the menu for dinner!!! After resting in the room for a few hours and hanging out with Molly who we missed at the race, Lauren and I met another friend from high school, Haley for pizza at Pizza Paradiso!

This place was so cool with tons of draft beers (no Bud Light for me, I was actually adventurous) and delicious sounding personal pizzas! We all ordered margarita pizzas and then added personal toppings, I got spinach, red peppers and pepperoni… YUM

mmmm just look at that crust…. it was definitely one of my top favorite restaurant pizzas that is for sure!

After dinner Lauren and I walked back to the hotel where I promptly passed out in a wonderful running/exhaustion induced sleep!

The next morning we were up and at em deciding to get lunch and then head our separate ways, Lauren back to Penn State, and me and my mom back to our beach house! As we were checking out we ran into one of my brother’s best friends from HS, who had run the half (and qualified for Boston in her previous marathon because she is amazing and superrunnergirl) Her name is also Lauren, and I had been taking to her but we missed her the previous day at the race and I never thought to ask where she was staying! Funnily enough not only was she at our hotel but staying a few rooms  away on the same floor… small world!

We decided to meet her and another girl who had gone to our high school at Sweet Greens in Georgetown! OMG This salad place was soooo good! I got a grain bowl which consisted of barley, quinoa, and another grain that right now I am forgetting along with avocado, tomatoes, peppers, romaine lettuce, and shrimp! This was so good!

After leaving Lauren  and Kate, PMull Lauren and I went on a quest to find Baked and Wired, a cupcake place supposedly better than Georgetown Cupcakes… and without the ridiculous line! OMG these cupcakes were amazing! Lauren got the Texas Sheet Cake, my mom got the Chocolate Doom, and I being predictable got Red Velvet because really I am never one to pass up an amazing Red Velvet Cupcake… who is?

We walked around with our cupcakes for a bit before heading back to the hotel to say bye!

It was such a fun weekend and I felt so lucky to be able to see so many wonderful people… and ya know run 26.2 miles… and eat delicious food!!!!

Later I will do a 360 and recap VEGAS…. quite different from DC haha

xxoo

Peace, Love, and be Sperry!

I thought it 2.62 miles!!!

JUSTTTT KIDDINNGGG.. but that’s what soemones shirt said!!

Hello blog world I am alive! And I  conquered (ish) 26.2 miles!!!!!

5:22…. wayyyy slower than my anticipated/trained for time of 4:30 however I did not expect temps that felt like 85, the awful humidity, and a last 10 miles that were basically without shade…. not too mention the hilliest course I have ever run

me and my mom at the beginning!

BUT I FINISHED!!!! And thats all that really matters anyways.. the rest just goes to show I and everyone else running am a baller for seeing it through! Trust me at mile 9 I turned to my mom and had a mini breakdown, however she got me through to 12, and then I was on my own! At 15 my little angel friend Erica was there to cheer me on/walk with me throughthe water station… God bless her hahahaha… I definitely needed to see someone at that point! Then at 21 I found my mom, bffffll Lauren, and cousin Ryan riding around on bikes! They biked the last 5 miles with me, not even judging when I had to walk the hills!!! Seriously though…. pacemakers out there…. It is super cruel to put TWO hills in the last mile….. I powered through and didn’t walk the last one but still…. be nice to us after all that running! Luckily my friend Lyndsey was at the finish line which gave me that extra burst I needed to finish strong!

I don’t know if I will ever do another one… maybe I will…. definitely not in March again, or probably in a place where I am not used to the climate however it was fun, I got to spend the weekend in DC with so many amazing people from both high school and college, not to mention the best mom ever! We have decided that we are going to try and do a half-marathon together once a year from now on…. which I am definitely OK with as I think I am going to stick to halves from now on…. way more fun than a full!

I will be back later for a recap of the weekend/FOOD we ate in DC… there was a lot and it was DELICIOUS!

DiFebos Restaurant and Taper Food

HiHIHI

OMG… At this time tomorrow… I will still be running…. and will have like 2.5 hours to go… sweet.awesome.yay! Can you tel I’m/nervous/excited/overwhelmed?

On the bright side- no more hip pain!!! Yayayayayay that is something very exciting!

And I am a spoiled rotten child because TWO friends from HS and a friend from College are coming to watch me run from NYC/State College, not to mention little one, my cousin, and potentially a few other friends!!! YAY! And I am running 12 miles with my momma which is even better!

So for those of you who have run halves or fills before, you know that taper time is the best and worst time! Right now I am feeling the worst as I have let the food guard down in anticipation for saturday and am one bloated carby girl right now. However I am reminding myself that when I am on mile 22 tomorrow and basically using everything in my body to keep running I will thank myself. Regardless I m pretty sure I won’t be eating bread, pita chips, or other seriously carb-y things for a wile.. my body needs to detox! I have been eating lots of veggies and proteins too but… way more carbs… and things I usually don’t eat like whit bread, chicken fingers, fries, deep dish pizza… yummy delicious things that also later make me feel like a balloon (I blame that more on having a boy visit last weekend tho, and spending inordinate amounts of time in bars watching NCAA Championship Week!) Regardless of this balloon like feeling, I feel strong and ready to go sooo I guess I am doing something right? It has also been nice to be able to let the guard down and not freak out about it… like I have been totally ok with it! Regardless next week back to clean clean clean eating!

Anyways last night PMull and I went to DiFebos which is a nice italian seafood restaurant near us at the beach! It was lady’s night so entrees were 50% off except for specials.. so of course we got the specials hahaha… but if you had seen them on the men you also would have ordered them immediately!

To start a glass of Pinot… we werent going to drink until after our races butttt couldn’t help ourselves! This was followed by a house salad for my mom, and a cesear salad for me! Plus warm whole wheat great topped with sea salt and butter… YUM

Then it was time for the main meal! I ordered Peach-Balsamic BBQ Grilled Mahi Mahi over Mashed Potatoes and Brussel Sprouts (OMG) This was to die for… the Mahi Mahi was grilled perfectly and the BBQ sauce was out of this world… omg I could eat this every day. My mom got Pesto Ravioli with Crab Meat and Asparagus…. and omg this too was amazing… Well done DiFebos.. Well done!

Following dinner we went home and watched the first night of MARCH MADNESS!!!! And the New Grey’s and Private Practice….OMG so intense.. and then the CU-UNLV game.. BUFFS WON!!!!!

ok off to DC!!!!! See ya from the Capitol (I just had a Hunger Games moment there… ONE WEEK!!!)

Taper and sore hips!

Oh heyyy!
So I am at the airport getting ready to fly to Philly which means my marathon is in three days…… Yes I am FAREAKING out……but in a good way?

So right now I am on taper as I have mentioned in previous posts which has been an interesting experience. As an endurance athlete my whole life I am used to tapering…. And love it! But I did myself getting really apprehensive about this maybe because it is my first marathon and my hips won’t stop being sore! This is a big worry….. Ever since Saturday they have been nagging me! I have done yoga, hot tub, ice cold shower, icing, stretching…… They are better today but there’s still a slight soreness! Has anyone else experienced this? I am worried because on my 20 miler my hips got so tight I actually cried the last two miles because I was in so much pain.

It is the hip flexors, not bursitis or it band or anything like that… I’ve done my hw and know it is just seriously sore muscles that are probably a result of all the mileage and then the rest of taper… Still if you have any advice please share!!
Ok about to board…. I’ll be back later with more on taper and march madness!!!

The Announcement

Hi all!

Before I get to the meat of the post, I would like to share the winner of the Giveaway!

Number 4: Liz @Southern Charm

Wooo email me at megmull007@gmail.com to let me know 1. what you want and 2. your mailing info!!

Now I would like to talk about something more serious. Last night after dropping Whitt off at the airport, I watched the Announcement which is the ESPN Film about Magic Johnson’s journey with the HIV/AIDS virus.

HIV/AIDS is a virus that has infected over 33.4 million people. 1 million of that population is in the United States, and 1 in 5 people do not even know that they are infected. 1 in 5. It is a disease without a cure, but with a healthy lifestyle and the “HIV Cocktail” is livable. People are living for years with the virus if it is treated effectively and if the proper precautions and life choices are made. And last night, March 11, 2012- ESPN decided to show America the effect of HIV/AIDS on one of the most influential and best basketball players we have seen.

This documentary moved me to tears, it is the story of an extraordinary athlete and role model who took a personal tragedy and embraced his role as the face of the virus, and became a new role model outside of sport… one of hope, knowledge, and acceptance.

In 1991 when he was diagnosed, having this virus was a death sentence of sorts, if not only physically but socially. People have always had a negative connotation, one of being an outsider, or someone to avoid. However Magic dispelled this logic, his wife and child never got the virus, people he came in contact with did not get the virus, and he played in both the all star game and the Olympics in Barcelona as a part of the Dream Team, with my fave… Michael Jordan. He played for a short while in 1992, and was a coach of the Lakers for a period time as well.

Magic Johnson has lived with the HIV/AIDS virus for over 20 years… he has lived a healthy lifestyle, taken the medications, and done his best to spread knowledge of HIV. He currently has no AIDS symptoms.

This documentary, Magic, and ESPN are an inspiration for spreading the message and awareness of HIV/AIDS. This is a virus that affects anyone… and it is just that, a disease. People should not be ostracized for contracting a disease that they did not ask for, and may not have even known they were at risk.  Take this message and allow yourself to think about it, do not shun someone or treat them differently because they are suffering from this awful disease. Instead take care, be safe, and help spread awareness in your own way.

I know this was a deep post, and I am sorry if anyone was offended by this post. This is a cause that has become close to my heart, and I felt the need to share.

No Facebook

For Forty days…..
That is what I have given up for Lent.. that and Swedish Fish and Froyo… but most importantly Facebook!
Those who clcked on this link via Facebook are probably thinking HUH? My blog, iPhoto, and my Nike+ app sync automatically to FB so I don’t actually have to do anything on FB for those to appear magically on there… like I have been on but nope haven’t checked!

I gave up Facebook because I waste sososososo much time on FB it is a little bit ridiculous, and because it is actually a difficult thing to give up. I give up sweets/froyo basically every year so it isn’t really that hard anymore… yes I crave it but I don’t really miss it the way I miss wasting countless hours sitting on Facebook… it is a tad ridiculous.

Two weeks in and I am doing pretty good, it stinks because people forget so they invite me to stuff or write on my wall, but as I disabled the app from my phone and iPad, and never get the emails, I literally don’t know whats going on! Luckily Liza is the best rookie and so reminds me of birthdays and other important events. So if you are reading this and your birthday falls during Lent and I haven’t memorized it… I am sorry and Happy Birthday in advanced/belated!

I have been meaning to post about Lent for awhile but I keep forgetting/have been too busy for life!

I am superduperuber excited because IT IS FRIDAY…. which means…. My friend comes today!!! I love love love having visitors in Denver!!! And it is my friend Mel’s bday so HAPPY BDAY MEL!!! I have made a Buttermilk Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate frosting for both occasions!!! Not only that but one more day of class and then 2 week spring break!!!!!!! And my marathon is in 8 days… CRAYCRAY

This morning I got up early before class in order to do a yoga/circuit workout that was awesome! Yay for morning workouts!

Yes lots of excitingexcitngexciting things going in Megan-Land today!

Last night I went to din din at my Aunt Alice’s house who I haven’t seen since Christmas! She is the coolest best aunt and I am so lucky to be in the same state as her and her fam! We had grilled steak, chicken, and veggies with baked potatoes!!! yummmm sadly un pictured as I deserted my phone during dinner!!!

Afterwards I came home and made cupcakes and watched Jersey Shore with Liza, gotta love it!

Anywho Don’t forget to check out my Giveaway!!!
